Well today is the day we jump in our truck and make a 2.5 hour trip in hopes of bringing home a mare in need of some TLC. She is a 14 year old Thoroughbred that is in foal to a paint. She is due in June. She has not been fed properly and is covered in rain scald.
I was not looking for another horse, but one of my kids riding instructors called to tell me about her and I just melted. I couldn't stand the thought of her being in such bad shape and having a baby.... So, there you have it. As long as all goes well today, I should have her home by tonight. I'm bringing her to our house to get healthy.
If any of you have been in this situation before and have good advice of fattening up a very skinny horse like this or how to clear up the rain scald.... Please advise.
I have only every bought a horse that was a little underweight or have seen just a touch of rain scald... a scab her or there not covered. So advice is appreciated!
