Here's a little history on this mare and her foal:
I heard about her through my childrens riding instructor. One of her former students called and because she was having trouble feeding all of her horses needed to get down by a few per the authorities. I heard about Sissy and that she was pregnant. I couldn't bear the thought of a pregnant mare not getting fed properly. So, I drove 2 1/2 hours and bought her. I brought her home, had the vet out, started giving her some good feed and TLC and she thrived as did her colt. They both have a clean bill of health from the vet.
I have put a lot of money into these two and will be lucky if I break even, but my main concern is a good home where she will never have to worry about food again.
She is still a bit on the thin side so please keep in mind what she has been through when looking at the photo's. She also needs to gain a lot of muscle tone back, especially on her back and rearend. She is not a hard keeper, to have her gaining weight while in foal I was feeding her 2 flakes hay am/pm as well as a 3lb can of mare and foal grain. I have no doubt in my mind she is going to be absolutely stunning when she has all of her weight on. When I first saw her out in the pasture galloping around for the first time, she literally took my breath away…. All I could think of was she is magnificent!!!
The only reason I am selling them, is because we raise APHA halter horses and we like them beefy, she just doesn't quite fit into our breeding program. If we were breeding for pleasure horses, or English horses… I would keep her in a heartbeat!!!
Her colt is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I have ever seen a foal with such long legs. The vet even said he should mature to be at least as tall as her and she is 16.1 or 16.2.
As far as I know she is ridable although we have not even tried to ride her. The lady I bought her from said that she was great on trails. She is a very quiet mare to be around. Even for the vet, doing her teeth, checking her teeth, etc. She was great. I have not seen any soundness issues at all.
