What a looooooonnnnnnggggg trip that was! My husband ended up having customers coming in on Saturday so he couldn't go with us. So just the kids and I went. It ended up being a 12 hour trip down yesterday on some roads I hope I don't ever see again, and then 12 hours to get home today! We left here yesterday at 7:00 am drove down and met a friend in Oregon for a quick lunch.... I haven't seen her in forever, we can't even remember when the last time was. Then headed off, arrived at 7:00 pm, checked into a hotel, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then got the phone call that they were there at the fairgrounds with her, so we jumped in the truck and ran over to meet Connie. She is even prettier than in the pictures!!! My son was watching them unload her, he only saw her behind and tail and said "Mom she's beautiful!". Pat's son, Daughter-in-law and 3 grandkids showed up so the little granddaughter could get one more ride. I took a few pics, it was black outside so they didn't turn out the greatest.
This morning we met them at about 7:15, the kids were all coming for one last hug and kiss.... the little granddaughter was just in tears, it broke my heart. I told her we would send pics to her grandma and keep them updated. She felt a little better. Then I looked at Pat and she was just in tears, I went and gave her a big hug and told her thank you, then reassured her we would take great care of her. Then we were off. We arrived at the barn at 7:00 pm, unloaded Connie and walked her around a bit. The other horses had been fed, so I just watered Connie and gave her a little hay. I'm a bit worried because she didn't hardly touch any water today at all and when we unloaded her she had tons of mucus just drain from her nose. I have never hauled a horse that long before..... I have heard because they can't put their heads down they can't clear all the dust, hay, etc. they are inhaling. She seemed fine after that, so I hope she just cleared it out and it doesn't go down to her lungs.
All in all it went very smoothly and as planned. It just feels so good to be home. I'm sure poor Connie must think her world has been turned upside down. 24 hours of hauling and going from warm sunny so. California to cool wet West. Washington!!!
Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. (I needed them to keep from killing two kids who wouldn't quit fighting with each other, but what can you expect sitting for that long!)
Here are a few pics, remember they were all taken in the dark, except the one with Jim and the granddaugter so I had to lighten them a bit. I can't wait to get her up a little more on her weight and see her in shape.
Hope all is well with all of you.
